Skype Brings Group Video Calling to Mobile Phones, Tablets
Ever wish that group text was a group video chat sesh? Skype is making it possible.
The Microsoft-owned conversation service terminal month first announced plans to expand group video calling to mobile and it's at present rolling out to iPhone, iPad, and Android phones and tablets in North American and Western Europe. The feature should be available worldwide in March, Skype said.
"Soon, everyone will have the freedom to enjoy totally free grouping get-togethers anytime, anywhere — and with anyone they want," the Skype squad wrote in a blog post.
Skype said that "tens of thousands" of users pre-registered to try out the feature terminal month, and provided "invaluable feedback that helped us fine-tune the experience." The feature at present supports up to 25 people in a group video call, up from five during the beta.
Look crisp, HD-quality video that'south specifically optimized for the device yous're using, and "crystal clear" sound, Skype said. Yous tin can opt for: a filigree view to encounter everyone'south faces at one time; focus view, which shows just the person talking at that moment; or you tin can "Pin" a certain person to the main view.
Another cool feature — the ability to invite anyone to a group video conversation, even if they're not on your contact list or don't have a Skype account. Just start a chat on your iPhone, iPhone, or Android device and you can share the unique conversation link via e-mail, WhatsApp, Messenger, Twitter, or Facebook.
